We hope all the children enjoyed their first two days back, we absolutely loved meeting them all and seeing their happy smiley faces both mornings! We are so proud of how they came in and dealt with all the changes, what superstars!
Thank you to those that brought in the items listed below, if you haven't done so yet please can you do so asap, many thanks. If there are any problems then please do let us know.
Please bear with us whilst we continue to settle the children in. Our main focus has been their well-being and ensuring they are happy and safe. It is a learning curve for the staff as well as the children and we are all still finding our feet! We will be spending some time getting to know the children so that we can make sure they have the appropriate books for their reading ability, books will start to come home in the next few weeks but we will try to update Bug Club sooner which the children can access. They have the same username and password as last year.
Please do let the office know if it will be someone different collecting your child, so that they can get a message to us. If it is a regular thing, pop a note in their bag or email us to let us know. Similarly if you have any questions or concerns please do feel free to email us, it's not always easy to speak before school, we will check the email regularly and get back to you

Things to bring
Every child will need a small named bottle of hand sanitiser gel, a packet of tissues and a plastic pencil case with colouring pencils in. These will stay at school in their personal trays to limit contact with others.
They will need to bring a named water bottle in daily - there will be no cups this year for hygiene reasons.
We aim to hear children read once a week. This may not always be individually and might not be with the class teacher every week. We include lots of reading into our daily lessons so rest assured we do see the progress your children are making. Please help us to support your child by reading with them every night and recording this in their Home School message book.
So that we can keep the children safe, we have been advised to quarantine all books that leave the classroom; the children will have the opportunity to choose a book every Monday, they will keep this book all week amd return it to school, ready for quarantine on Friday. It is the children's responsibility to place their home school message book in the box every morning.
Children are not expected to read the entire book in one night. We would prefer them to enjoy reading 3 to 4 pages with you and to answer questions about what they have been reading. Comprehension is just as important when progressing through the book levels so you may find your child stays on a level for a little longer even if they can read the words. There are some ideas of questions to ask your child on the bookmarks in their Home School message books.
Please don't forget Bug Club, there are lots of lovely books and it counts as a read if you have supported them and written in their Home School message book! You can find your child's login details inside the back cover.
Click on Games & Resources for some helpful information about Phonics including Mr Thorne and Phonics Play. These will give you more information on how to pronounce the phonemes, digraphs and trigraphs. There are some ideas for ways to make phonics fun at home which can be found here on our Curriculum page. Children that read each night to practice the skills they have been taught are the children who are most confident in school.
Further information regarding homework will be provided in due course.

To start off the school year, we are asking for children to come to school wearing their PE kit on their PE days. This is part of our COVID safety measures to keep both children and staff safe. In Year 1, many children still need help doing up buttons and putting on socks and tights, by wearing their PE kit to school wr can ensure a safe distance is maintained. Children will need to wear their PE shorts and T Shirts, along with a pair of jogging bottoms and their school jumper or cardigan. Please only put your child in lace up trainers if they can tie them independently.
Please remember that pierced earrings MUST be removed for PE. Sadly your child will not be able to take part in PE lessons if they are wearing earrings. This is for their own safety. Please also remember that PE is statutory and therefore it is the responsibility of parents to ensure that their children are able to take part.
Please make sure that long hair is tied back and ALL items of kit are named.
We will be going out in all weathers so please can you make sure your child is wearing suitable clothes and has a waterproof coat with them.
Due to COVID restrictions we have to limit the number of visitors in school, so therefore there will be no birthday assemblies until further notice.
Please remember to complete and return school dinner menus for the following week. Food has to be ordered in advance and meals are cooked according to that order. Please do not expect a meal if you have not ordered it in advance. Please do not send your child with a packed lunch if you have ordered a meal as that meal will be wasted. We cannot change the order mid-week. If you wish to change your child's order please speak to office staff and they will change it for the following week. If staff see that a child is not eating anything at all they may well suggest they bring their own lunch until they are happy to eat a school hot meal.
