Welcome to Year 1!
Welcome back, we hope you all had a lovely Easter holiday! Our topic this half term is Royal Britannia.
Children will read with an adult once a week. Please bear in mind this may not be the class teacher every week. This half term some children will be taking part in guided reading sessions. Please help us to support your child by reading with them every night and recording this in their Home School message book.
This term we are continuing our reading challenge! Each child who reads 5 or more times a week (on separate days) will get a sticker on their class chart. The winners at the end of each half term will win a prize! Please note the week will run from Friday-Thursday to allow us to tell the children on each Friday who has achieved their 5 reads that week.
Children will have opportunities to change their reading books throughout the week, therefore they need to bring them in their book bags every day. It is the children's responsibility to place their Home School message books in the box each morning.
Children are not expected to read the entire book in one night. We would prefer them to enjoy reading 3 to 4 pages with you and to answer questions about what they have been reading.
Please don't forget Bug Club, there are lots of lovely books and it counts as a read if you have supported them and written in their Home School message book! You can find your child's login details inside the front cover.

Whilst it is very cold at the moment as it gets warmer throughout the term (hopefully!) we may again begin to do some of our PE outside. Please ensure your child has a pair of plimsolls or trainers that fit. It may be an idea to send in a pair of jogging bottoms too in case it is chilly.
