Year 2

Welcome to Year 2 and we hope you have all had a lovely summer.  We are looking forward to a very exciting and creative year which starts with a whole school school topic based on Julia Donaldson books. We are looking forward to taking all the year group on a school trip to the Gruffalo Trail at Thorndon Park later this term.

We are hoping that all the children will read at least 5 times a week at home and if they can read for at least 10 minutes a day it will really help them become more fluent readers.  They can read their school books, books from home or log on and read a book from bug club.  At school we will be listening to the children read in their guided reading groups every week and we all read daily in our phonics session.  In Year 2 the children are expected to change their books as soon as they need to and they can take two scheme books and a book from the school library or the class book corner home to read.

This year our P.E. days for Year 2 will be on Monday afternoons and Friday afternoons, please make sure that they have all their P.E. kit in school on those days and they will need plimsolls.  Please remember children cannot do PE if they are wearing pierced earrings. Parents are asked to ensure these are removed on PE days.  Don't forget it is a statutory subject and the responsibility of parents to ensure that children are able to take part. Please make sure they also have a PE kit which they can leave in school.

Outdoor Learning:  We will be going out in all weathers so please can you make sure your child is wearing suitable clothes and has a coat with them.
