Year 1

Home learning

Hi to all of our wonderful families and children,

We will be making weekly changes to our page in order to help you at home with your little one (ones!). We understand how overwhelming some of the suggested websites may be as they come with an abundance of learning activities. Therefore, we will be adding suggested phonics, maths, reading, writing and topic related activities on a weekly basis to help guide you through this current time that we are faced with.

We know it's going to be hard keeping active but the following websites that we have been sent from our Sports Partnership might be worth having a look at.  Lots of ideas including PE home learning, 60 second changes and fun ways to keep active.

Joe Wicks on YouTube is proving very popular at 9am everyday.

Oti from Strictly is also doing a live dance class for children every day at 11.30 on facebook live (though they can also be watched at a later date). Mrs Andrews has been joining in with her children and can confirm they are lots of fun!

If you need to contact Mrs Hutchings please contact her via her class email address which is squirrelclass2020@outlook.com between 9am -3pm and she will try and help.

If you need to contact Mrs Navajas and Mrs Andrews their class email address is badgerclass2020@outlook.com. They will try and get back to you as soon as they can.

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like (even if you think they may sound silly!) and share any pictures of the wonderful learning taking place at home. We are here to help you as much as we possibly can.

Thank you for those who have emailed us with either questions about the home learning or to send photographs of what you are doing at home.  Please do keep emailing us if you need help with anything and we will get back to you.

We have just found out the phonics play are offering free access during this time so all you need to do when accessing this site is to put in the username: march20 and the password: home.  There are lots of amazing phonics games to play at home and it might make practicing phonics a bit more fun!

We miss the children and our families very much and we wish you all a safe and enjoyable time during these circumstances.

Welcome to Year 1!

Welcome back, we hope you all had a lovely half term despite the weather! Hopefully Spring will be on it's way soon! We are looking forward to another fun half term, our topic for the next 6 weeks is 'Through the Keyhole'.

We aim to hear children read once a week. This may not always be individually and might not be with the class teacher every week. We include lots of reading into our daily lessons so rest assured we do see the progress your children are making. Please help us to support your child by reading with them every night and recording this in their Home School message book.

Children will have opportunities to change their reading books throughout the week, therefore they need to bring them in their book bags every day. It is the children's responsibility to place their Home School message books in the box each morning.

Children are not expected to read the entire book in one night. We would prefer them to enjoy reading 3 to 4 pages with you and to answer questions about what they have been reading. Comprehension is just as important when progressing through the book levels so you may find your child stays on a level for a little longer even if they can read the words. There are some ideas of questions to ask your child on the bookmarks in their Home School message books.

Please don't forget Bug Club, there are lots of lovely books and it counts as a read if you have supported them and written in their Home School message book! You can find your child's login details inside the back cover.

Outdoor Learning:  We will be going out in all weathers so please can you make sure your child is wearing suitable clothes and has a coat with them.

Homework: Books will come home Friday and will need to be returned to school no later than Thursday each week.

Please ensure your child's PE bag is in school and remember that pierced earrings MUST be removed for PE. Sadly your child will not be able to take part in PE lessons if they are wearing earrings. This is for their own safety. Please also remember that PE is statutory and therefore it is the responsibility of parents to ensure that their children are able to take part.

Whilst it is still nice at the moment we may be doing some of our PE outside. Please ensure your child has a pair of plimsolls or trainers that fit. It may be an idea to send in a pair of jogging bottoms too in case it is chilly.
